Heather McCullough - Interim Assistant Morning Program Director, Lead Teacher
A native of Texas, Heather moved to Virginia with her husband after college and began her career working in museums and galleries in Washington, DC. Following the birth of her first child she chose to put that career on hold and stay home. This break from the work force, and the birth of another child, led her in a new direction – teaching young children. Heather has worked in preschools in northern Virginia for over 10 years as a Lead Teacher with children ages 2-5. Through out those years her impression of children’s intellectual, physical and emotional abilities, along with the best approach for nurturing them, shifted. When she discovered Columbia’s emphasis on the Reggio Emilia approach, along with a focus on fine art materials, she knew this was where she belonged. With her two children – one in college in Colorado and the other in high school – well beyond the preschool years, the children of Columbia are a constant reminder for her to slow down and take time to enjoy all there is to discover in our world.
