In April 2008, Pastor Baucom and other leaders met to discuss God's leading to establish an All Columbia hunger relief ministry. In August, the first dollar to Columbia's Hunger Fund was donated (by a preschooler). During September, a diverse group of Columbians, led by Pastor for Missions Anne Tomas, immersed themselves in Bible study, prayer and worship, focusing on understanding the plight of those struggling with hunger.
This group formed a recommendation to the church for a long-term, concerted effort to address both spiritual and physical hunger around the world. The group also chose Isaiah 58:10 as their theme scripture and the words “Spend Yourself® as the name of the hunger relief ministry.
Spend Yourself® began as a church call to put faith into action. Today, it is movement of partnerships with other agencies, churches and individuals who are passionate about sharing God love for the world by sharing the gift that God so generously gave us: LIFE. Through community projects, education and prayer, this ministry goal is to provide and empower, while also sharing the Bread of Life, our Lord Jesus Christ.
